I’m very new to the world of Audiology, but one thing is for certain; I learn something new every day! Even those who have worked in this field for many years have a continuous career in learning and ongoing education. Since beginning my journey as an Audiology Assistant, I have learned how crucial this role is not only to our Audiologists, but for our patients!
Every day in this role, I’m working with patients, whether it’s over the phone or in person. I see patients all year round, if they have any issues with their hearing aids, processing repairs, or if it’s a patient first time wearing prescription hearing aids. In particular, when a patient has never worn hearing aids before, it can be a lot of information to process and a transition to adapt to their daily lives. During orientation, I review how to insert and remove hearing aids, and how to maintain them to optimize hearing aid longevity. I also review manufacturer apps, introduce Bluetooth streaming, and how to adjust your own prescription hearing aids through the phone. I always follow up with patients shortly after they have been fitted; a patient’s satisfaction is important to us. Patient education is the driving force of our business!
Behind the scenes, I’m taking care of not only clinical tasks but also administrative duties that also make an impact on our patient’s hearing aid journey. Our practice accepts nearly everyone’s insurance, which means making sure each of our patient records has the appropriate paperwork. Each insurance has different requirements and making sure all paperwork is delivered on time does affect a patient’s hearing care journey. We believe everyone deserves an opportunity to better hearing!
As an Audiology Assistant, we are licensed to repair hearing aids. Ensuring my laboratory it stocked, means I can help my patient’s replace parts and fix these problems instead of sending it to the manufacturer for repair.
It’s amazing how a simple tip can impact my patients hearing journey with their devices; it’s always so rewarding when patients learn alongside me.
As a licensed Audiology Assistant with Gardner Audiology, I make an impact every day which makes my job rewarding, by improving the lives of others with the gift of hearing.
