As Medicare’s annual enrollment period approaches, many Medicare recipients begin reviewing their healthcare coverage and asking an important question: ‘Will my Medicare plan help me pay for hearing aids in 2027?’
The answer will depend on the type of coverage you choose.
Traditional Medicare does not provide coverage for hearing aids, but “medigap” policies, or supplemental policies that cover costs Medicare does not cover, often provide access to hearing aid discounts.
Medicare’s Annual Enrollment period for 2027 benefits begins October 15th. This is an important time to look closely at your current coverage and compare options for the upcoming year.
Medicare Advantage plans have become a popular alternative to traditional Medicare, one of the biggest reasons for this is the vast additional benefits many plans offer. Depending on the plan, members may have access to a plethora of benefits traditional Medicare doesn’t cover, including gym memberships, groceries, and hearing aids!
Throughout my career in the hearing industry, I’ve seen that there is no single option that’s best for everyone. You should take into account your healthcare needs, prescription coverage, and whether your preferred doctors and specialists already participate in a plan’s network.
While we won’t get specific hearing benefit information until 2027, here’s a list of questions to ask prospective insurance carriers before deciding on a health plan if hearing is important to you:
- Is there an actual ‘allowance’ for hearing aids, or is it just a discount?
- What local hearing providers are in-network with this plan?
- Can my provider and I choose which hearing aid is best for me, or am I limited to one manufacturer?
- What additional costs can I expect after I get my hearing aids? Does my purchase include any follow-up care?
