Many manufacturers have which they call their flagship or premium hearing aid line and then their more essential or budget friendly hearing aid line. For Starkey, their flagship model is the Starkey Omega AI hearing aid (released Fall 2025) and their essential or budget friendly model is the Starkey G series hearing aid (released Spring 2026).
For each line, there are several tiers of technology with lower numbers meaning less noise reduction (i.e. Starkey Omega AI 16 has less noise reduction capability than the Omega AI 24 hearing aid).
There are several significant differences between these two product lines that are important to consider:
- Noise reduction: Essential product lines (G series) have SIGNIFICANTLY less noise reduction capability than even the lowest tier product in the flagship line (Omega). If you live a fairly quiet lifestyle, the essential product line may serve you well with improved access to sounds and conversation especially at home or 1:1.
- Battery life: The Omega line has a 51 hour battery life where as G series products do not guarantee more than a standard day (typically 16 hours – 24 hours depending on streaming and power output).
- Safety alerts: The Omega line has the option to enable fall alerts and monitor respiratory rate, etc via the hearing aid. Whereas the G series does not have these features available.
- Waterproof coating: The Omega line has an enhanced waterproof coating compared to essential waterproof coating on the G series hearing aid.
While there are many differences, there are also important similarities to be aware of:
- Both can be paired to compatible phones for use of Bluetooth phone calls and streaming audio signals like music, audiobooks, and Facebook videos.
- Both can use accessories like TV Streamers or remote microphones.
- Both will provide your brain access to more sounds and better word understanding, especially in quiet environments.
Regardless of which model you and your Audiologist select, it’s important to know that your hearing aid is important to wear daily for a minimum of 8 to 10 hours a day to truly see the benefit for hearing and processing conversation.
Both models are available for private pay purchase and are also slowly making their way to 3rd party insurance platforms for patients to access at a reduced rate (depending on your insurance plan).
