On Friday, February 27, 2015, I attended the Hearing Loss and Deaf Social event in Safety Harbor. Cynthia Moynihan, president of the Florida Chapter of the Hearing Loss Association of America, invited me to represent the Florida Academy of Audiology. She also invited leaders from nonprofit groups such National Association for Deaf, AG Bell, Association for Late Deafened Adults, and the Florida Telecommunications Relay.
Every one listened while attendees shared the goals and activities of their respective group. Most participants agreed that groups who advocate for people with hearing loss could accomplish more as a coalition.
I commend the Florida Chapter of HLAA for bringing everyone together to form a council. Joanne Devries, president of Sarasota Chapter, and Elaine Goddard, president of the Lakeland chapter, supported and contributed to the success of this event. The Florida Chapters of the HLAA routinely coordinate efforts to help all people who suffer from hearing loss.
On March 7th I look forward to attending the Hearing Tech Expo that is being sponsored by the Sarasota Chapter. For more information contact expo@hlas.org or call 941-320-8825.
