How To Prepare for 2026 Hurricane Season with Hearing Aids

Hurricane season is upon us once again. While we think about things like batteries, water, medications, and pet supplies, what about your hearing aids? There are several things to consider. You may not be able to get out to get supplies. You may be without power for an extended period of time. You may get water in your home. Let’s talk about how to prepare.

First, have extra supplies gathered, such as wax filters, domes, and cleaning tools. Keep them with your hurricane prep kit. If your hearing aids take changeable batteries, have a supply with that kit, as well. Keep these supplies in a waterproof container or bag. If your hearing aids are rechargeable, it is wise to have a power bank charged and ready to go so that you can charge your hearing aids without power. You can also charge them in most cars if your car has a USB port. Some hearing aid chargers include an onboard battery that allows you to charge your hearing aid on the go. If your charger has that feature, make sure you keep the charger plugged in so that it stays charged up to the point you lose power. A fully charged charger will typically give up to three charges without using electricity.

If your hearing aids are lost or damaged during a storm, reach out to us at 1-800-277-1182. You may have loss and damage insurance on your hearing aids. If so, your hearing aids will be replaced after you pay your deductible.

If you have any questions about how to stay prepared or if you need anything after the storm hits, the Gardner team is here for you. Several of our offices offer Redux services to remove water from hearing aids.  Contact us at (800) 277-1182, email: info@gardneraudiology.com, or schedule an appointment online here.
