If you’ve ever said, “I can hear, but I just can’t understand people when there’s background noise,” you’re not alone. This is where the newest generation of hearing technology is making an exciting difference. While we have not yet had the opportunity to work with the new Sensia, here is what ReSound has to say about it!
Meet ReSound Sensia, a new family of premium hearing aids designed with one of the biggest challenges of hearing loss in mind: understanding speech in noise.
So, what makes this hearing aid different? It combines artificial intelligence (AI), advanced sound processing, and multiple microphones to help your hearing aids automatically respond to the environment around you.
Instead of simply making everything louder, Sensia is designed to help emphasize the sounds you want to hear while making unwanted background noise less distracting. It uses AcoustIQ, which continuously monitors the sounds around you and automatically adjusts the hearing aid setting as your listening environment changes.
That means your hearing aids can respond differently when you’re sitting in a quiet room versus walking through a busy restaurant. The goal is to make these changes happen automatically, without requiring you to constantly adjust your hearing aids.
Sensia uses four synchronized microphones to create a forward-facing beam that helps focus on sounds in front of you. In everyday terms, imagine sitting across from someone at a restaurant. Rather than treating every sound in the room equally, the technology is designed to help you focus on the person you’re looking at while still maintaining awareness of your surroundings.
Simply turning your head toward the person you want to hear can help the system respond to the listening situation.
One of the most exciting aspects of Sensia is its latest AI-powered deep neural network (DNN) technology. It’s designed to identify speech and background noise and process those sounds differently. The goal is to bring speech forward while making background noise less distracting.
ReSound Sensia is available in several styles, including receiver-in-ear (RIE) and custom options. The family includes the microRIE, which ReSound describes as the smallest AI rechargeable RIE. They claim that it will provide up to 30 hours of use under typical conditions. And, like most modern hearing aids these days, they offer Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast options for streaming as well as having their ReSound Smart 3D app to personalize listening even more.
