His New Gardner Audiology Hearing Aids Brought Tears of Joy

My name is Megan Labbe I am a Doctoral Extern at Gardner Audiology in Tampa Bay and I love going to work every day. You know they say; choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.  Not only do I love what I do, I am proud of what I do. I am given the ability to reconnect people to a world of hearing and for some people they do not know what they are missing.

In fact, Audiologist change the life of their patients daily and I was able to change someone’s life just last week.  It was the first time I met this patient. Hsaw me for a hearing aid fitting. During this appointment, we used live speech mapping to appropriately fit his new hearing aids to his individual hearing loss.  We also took the time to orient him on all the things he needed to know to clean and care for his hearing aids.

Once I turned on both of his hearing aids the patient was surprised and positively overwhelmed, full of tears of joy.  In that instant, it is hard to not become emotional myself. He stated “Wow, I can hear, I can really hear!”.

A week later he came back for his follow up, this is a routine appointment to check in and see how he is doing with his hearing aids and see if any adjustments are needed.  Again, he was truly ecstatic with the sound quality. This man admitted to socially isolating himself, avoiding contact with even his closest friends, taking his wonderful supportive wife to restaurants, all because he struggles to keep up with conversations.  At this appointment, he told me that he was now spending more time with his friend and going to restaurants more often.  He even added it is truly a joyful experience being able to dine out and have a conversation with his wife, something he didn’t realize he was truly missing. He called me his superhero or as I like to say super-“hear”-o, pun intended.  It is days like these that show what a difference I can make in one individual’s life.

This individual case tugged on my heart strings.  Here at Gardner Audiology we have helped many individuals just as we did for him.  If you feel that you are struggling to hear, not participating in your regular activities or isolating yourself, please give us a call.  Our team of Audiologist are here to help answer any question you may have about better hearing solutions.
