You may have heard of Real Ear hearing aid testing, which is used to make sure your hearing aids are properly programmed. In the world of Audiology, this is called speech mapping. Typically, this is done using a segment of recorded speech. At Gardner Audiology in Citrus Park, Tampa, Florida, we prefer to use live speech.
When using live speech, the sample of speech we are testing with is natural. What hearing aid users will hear in the real world is live speech, not recorded. We can also manipulate our voices or the words we use to make sure that all frequencies of speech are included in the sample. This just makes it that much closer to the sounds you’ll hear in the real world! Not to mention, a better chance of getting it right for you on the first try!
Dr. Lauren Benoit uses live speech mapping with all of her patients that get hearing aids. She can also use it with patients who have existing hearing aids. Live speech mapping can be done to re-program hearing aids that were not properly programmed the first time, or if there was a major change in a patient’s hearing.
Dr. Benoit is currently accepting new patients at her Citrus Park, Tampa, Florida location. If you are interested in scheduling a consult, please contact Gardner Audiology at 1-800-277-1182 or email info@gardneraudiology.com for more information.
