Starkey Omega 16 vs. Omega 24

If you’ve been researching hearing aids, you may have noticed that the Starkey Omega hearing aids come in different technology levels, two of which include the Omega 16 (mid-level) and Omega 24 (premium level).

Both are part of Starkey’s newest hearing aid platform and include modern features like rechargeable batteries (lasting up to 51 hours of wear time), Bluetooth streaming, smartphone app connectivity, and clear sound processing.

What makes the price different?

The short answer: hearing performance in challenging environments, especially in background noise.

The good news is that both hearing aids are built on the same Starkey Omega platform, meaning you’ll still get high-quality technology with either option.

Both of them include:

  • Rechargeability
  • Bluetooth streaming and app connectivity
  • Automatic environmental sound adjustments
  • Comfortable, discreet designs
  • Excellent sound quality for daily listening

For many patients, both options can dramatically improve communication and hearing clarity compared to untreated hearing loss. Starkey offers the same core platform and connectivity across technology levels. The biggest differences are in how sophisticated the processing becomes in difficult listening situations.

The Biggest Difference: Performance in Background Noise

The Omega 24 is the premium technology level and is designed for people who regularly find themselves in noisy or complex listening environments such as restaurants, family gatherings, church services, meetings, group settings, sporting events, and more.

This is where the Omega 24 really shines. It includes their most advanced sound processing and premium speech enhancement technology, including their DNN 360 directionality, designed to better separate speech from surrounding noise and automatically optimize listening in difficult situations. The Omega 16 still performs well, but it uses a more basic level of adaptive directionality and noise management.

The Omega 16 may be a great fit for you if you spend most time at home, your listening environments are relatively quiet, you don’t frequent restaurants or large gatherings often, and if budget is an important consideration. For many people, the Omega 16 provides excellent hearing support for everyday life like watching TV, running errands, and smaller social settings while the Omega 24 may be worth the investment if you’re socially active, regularly frequent restaurants or group settings, or background noise frustrates you.

One thing many people don’t realize is that hearing in noise takes mental energy. Premium technology can help reduce listening effort and fatigue throughout the day by doing more of the work for you automatically. The best way to decide is by matching the technology to your lifestyle. During your appointment with us, we help patients think about where they struggle most. If noisy environments and group conversations are your biggest challenge, the Omega 24 may be worth the upgrade. If your listening environments are simpler and quieter, the Omega 16 may be just what you need. Call 800-277-1182 today to schedule an appointment with a member of our Audiology Team.
