Patient CC came to the Zephyrhills office of Gardner Audiology in February of 2019. She suffers from a moderate hearing loss and was having difficulty understanding conversation and television and was very frustrated. She had a benefit for hearing aids through UAW retiree BCBS insurance coverage and was able to order a set of hearing aids at no cost to her.
Last week, CC was fitted with her Starkey Muse receiver in the canal hearing aids. She returned in a couple of days for a minor adjustment. Today she returned, thrilled with the improvement in hearing. She was surprised at how low she is turning the volume on the television. She is sorry she waited so long to pursue hearing aids. She had no idea of what she was missing until she started wearing hearing aids.
Because hearing loss is typically gradual in nature, many people do not notice the change in their own hearing until the loss reaches the moderate range. In the early stages it sounds like people are mumbling, even when they are speaking clearly. Everyone should have a baseline hearing screening to set a reference point for future testing. Also, some insurances have a benefit toward hearing aids. Many insurance benefits changed January 1.
