JB came to the Zephyrhills office of Gardner Audiology in February to see about participating in our current Field Study of new technology. He had four year old hearing aids that he received from the Veteran’s Administration. He was very unhappy with the aids and said he has never heard very well with them, in spite of returning to them for adjustments. I explained to him that he would likely be eligible for new VA hearing aids in the next year. He said no, he was done with trip after trip to Tampa.
After screening his hearing, I realized that JB was an excellent candidate for Starkey Hearing Technology’s Spectral IQ feature. He had a very steep hearing drop off in the high frequencies, and that feature captures the high pitched sounds and replicates them in the lower pitches, where his hearing was much better. He was excited to try and I fit him with X110 receiver in the canal hearing aids. With minor adjustments, he purchased the hearing aids, thrilled to be understanding conversation once again!
