Let’s face it! Buying a hearing aid can seem like a scary process. You might be feeling excited to hear better but concerned about the investment you are about to make. It’s great to ask questions… But you may feel like you aren’t sure which questions to ask. So, let’s review a couple important ones!
What style do you recommend?
Hearing aids come in a few different styles. It’s important to understand which style your Audiologist recommends as this recommendation is largely based on your hearing. If you already have a style in mind, make sure discuss it with your Audiologist and ask if it is right for you.
What is included in the price?
Make sure you understand if the price you are quoted is for one or two hearing aids. Also be sure to ask whether the price includes services. Sometimes, a lower up-front cost may include a set amount of appointments, and any additional appointments would be out-of-pocket, whereas a higher up-front cost may include unlimited appointments until a set date.
Will the Hearing Aids be fit using Real Ear Measurements (REM)?
The use of REM is an important part of a hearing aid fitting. It ensures your hearing aid is working appropriately for your hearing and individual anatomy.
How long is the warranty?
A manufacturer warranty should always be included when purchasing a hearing aid. The length of the warranty can vary, so it’s important to know how long your warranty will last. You may also want to ask if you have the option to extend the warranty in the future.
When should I come back for follow-ups?
Follow-ups will play a major role in your success with hearing aids. It takes time to adjust to wearing hearing aids and it is very important for you to meet with your Audiologist to discuss your successes and struggles so adjustments can be made. Typically, after a few initial adjustments patients are able to return on a set schedule for cleanings or on an as-needed basis.
