Pros and Cons of Lyric Hearing Aids

Lyric Hearing Aids

The Lyric hearing device is a unique product that is different from all other hearing aids. It is inserted deep into the ear canal and then left in place for an average of 6-12 weeks. It is worn 24/7 without need for battery replacement or maintenance. When the battery dies, you must be seen in the office to have the unit removed, and a replacement inserted. Because of this, the Lyric is sold as a yearly subscription, covering all units used within that year. Not everyone can wear Lyric hearing devices. It is designed for mild to moderate hearing loss and is a stock unit, rather than custom fitted. It will not fit everyone’s ears!

The pros are they are they are invisible, natural sounding, and hassle-free, other than having to go in to have it changed every couple of months. Those who have tinnitus (noises in the ear or head) and experience masking relief when wearing hearing aids may appreciate wearing them at night, when tinnitus is often more noticeable. It is also good for caregivers who need to be able to hear at all times. Because they are not self-removed, they may be a good choice for someone with dementia or Alzheimer’s. They can be worn while showering, sleeping, or exercising.

The cons are they are expensive, do not fit all ears or all hearing losses, do not have AI noise reduction features, and have no Bluetooth. You cannot have a history of ear infections, perforated eardrums, active middle ear disease, or uncontrolled diabetes. You cannot have an MRI without having it removed first.
