The newest addition to Oticon’s hearing aid family, Oticon Reveal, takes another step forward by using artificial intelligence (AI) to help people hear both speech and the sounds that make up the world around them. This isn’t available to the consumer just yet, but we wanted to get a head start on informing our patients of this new technology.
Oticon reports that one of the most exciting features of Reveal is its new Dual AI system. Traditional hearing aids have become very sophisticated at identifying and enhancing speech. However, our everyday listening experience is about much more than words. We also hear background sounds, environmental noises, music, laughter, footsteps, birds, traffic, and countless other sounds that provide important context about what is happening around us.
Oticon Reveal uses two dedicated AI systems, Speech AI and Context AI that work together in real time. They say the goal is to provide access to clear speech while also preserving important environmental sounds and context.
So, what is Dual AI?
Think about sitting at a busy restaurant with your family. You want to hear the person sitting across from you, but you also don’t want the entire restaurant to disappear. You may want to hear your server approaching, notice when someone at the table next to you laughs, or hear dishes being placed on the table.
The Dual AI technology is reportedly designed to balance these different types of sounds in real time. The Speech AI focuses on speech, while the Context AI helps maintain awareness of the surrounding environment. This helps create a more natural listening environment.
Another feature is its use of 4D Sensor technology. This considers information about your listening environment as well as your moments and behavior. This allows the hearing aids to provide more personalized support as your listening situation changes.
Oticon revealed an updated wind and handling stabilizer 2.0 which is designed to reduce wind and handling noise. They report up to a 40dB difference compared to their first-generation technology. They also incorporated a new feedback prevention system that provides additional available gain while helping to prevent feedback.
