Hearing aids have come a long way! Gone are the days of bulky devices behind your ears that need to be wired into the computer for adjustments. Today, most hearing aids can be controlled wirelessly, and yes, that includes Bluetooth connectivity to smartphones!
Whether you have an iPhone or an Android device, Bluetooth connectivity with hearing aids is available with today’s technology! While this is all well and good, many patients ask “Why should I connect my hearing aids to my smartphone?”
A favorite feature of many patients is the ability to stream phone calls and other media straight to your hearing aids! With iPhone and Android 10 (or newer) devices, you can stream any audio from your phone directly to your hearing aids! Several patients have reported an improvement in sound quality when streaming, whether it be a phone call or music.
But wait, there’s more! All of the major hearing aid manufacturers now have an app that can be downloaded, that basically allows your phone to act as a remote control for your hearing aids! Through the apps, patients have the ability to make volume adjustments, limited fine tuning of sound quality, or even request a remote adjustment from your audiologist (depending on the manufacturer)! Several of the manufacturers are now including a “Find My Hearing Aids” feature, which patients have been loving, especially since mask-wearing has become part of our daily routine.
